Lesson 9 – Backup your WordPress blog

WordPress – back up your own blog platform.

See Lesson 7 on how to setup and install WordPress.

To ensure that you don’t lose all your WordPress site before doing an upgrade, I recommend installing a plug-in called the WordPress Database Backup. You can get it from http://www.ilfilosofo.com/blog/wp-db-backup

Otherwise, download it directly from the above website (one less click anyway!). Save this file somewhere, then unzip it to your /wp-content/plugins folder.

Login to your WordPress installation, go to the PlugIns link over to the right hand side (if you’re using a version of WordPress less than 2.7) and activate it!

  1. Hello. How is a local WordPress site made available to the internet for exporting?

I have a local site setup with Xampp. I want to export the posts from the local site to a web host. When the web host tries to import the posts from the blog on my computer, there is an error message “remote server did not respond”.

I have been looking for hours for some help with this with no luck. Seems like obvious tutorial material. ;)

    Thanks
